I went to Tesco's to put petrol in the car (£1.19 by the way, even at Tesco's). And because they were still doing the 5p off a litre of petrol if you spend over £50 ... I went and bought a couple of things for the house.
There was an exercise mat - so I can progress my Wii Fit Yoga, a flat sheet for the bed, and a scrubbing brush for the deck (don't ask). I got some more fiction books (Kathy Reichs, Bones to Ashes and Laura Weisberger, Chasing Harry Winston). I bought a new flash drive to replace the one I thought I'd lost (it's held together with sellotape and contains all my spreadsheets and other vital documents - panic much?).
To counteract the gloom on the living room I got two uplighters for a fiver each. This may have been where it all went wrong. On assembly, I couldn't get the shade to stay firm in the fitting - so I kept tightening and tightening until the fitting came away in my hand, leaving behind its two little electrical wires.
I assembled the second one, paying careful attention to the tension, plugged it in and away we went. (Of course, the ultra, super-duper energy efficient bulb is far too large for the shade, but it is nice and bright in the corner now).
I then retired to the garden during a brief non-rainy spell, to flick through my other book related purchase. All was well until I came to page 61/62. Or rather where page 61/62 used to be, before some little b*!$%&^d ripped it out. It apparently contained the best hangover cure, using my favourite fruit (pomegranates) - go figure.
The last book on the shelf, the last (two) uplighters in the store. I'd take them back tomorrow and complain, but the rain has sucked all the life out of me. Still on the silver lining side, I did get my petrol voucher. Every little helps ...
